Terms of Service
Last updated July 25, 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and the operator of Inspendia. By creating an account or using Inspendia, you accept them. If you do not, please do not use it.
They are written to be read. Where a clause limits what you can expect from us, it says so plainly rather than hiding in capital letters.
Read this first: Inspendia is not financial advice
Inspendia is a record-keeping and calculation tool. It shows you your own numbers back. It does not know your circumstances, it is not a financial adviser, accountant or tax professional, and nothing in it is a recommendation to spend, save, borrow or invest. Decisions you make with it are yours.
1. Who can use Inspendia
You must be 18 or older and able to enter a binding contract. Inspendia is not designed for children and we do not knowingly provide it to them.
You need a valid email address. You are responsible for keeping your password safe and for everything done through your account, so use a password you use nowhere else, and turn on two-factor authentication.
2. Not financial advice
This clause repeats the box above because it is the most important thing on this page.
Inspendia provides information and calculations, not advice. Budgets, savings rates, category breakdowns, trends, insights, investment valuations and any other figure it displays are arithmetic performed on the data you entered. They are not a recommendation, a forecast, a valuation you can rely on, or a professional opinion.
We are not your financial adviser, investment adviser, broker, accountant, auditor or tax professional, and using Inspendia creates no fiduciary or advisory relationship of any kind. For decisions that matter, consult someone qualified and licensed to advise you.
Investment tracking is record-keeping only. Inspendia does not execute trades, hold assets, or move money, and any valuation shown is derived from figures you supplied.
3. Accuracy is your responsibility
Inspendia calculates from what you enter. If what you enter is wrong, incomplete or out of date, what it shows you will be too, and we have no way to detect that, because we have no connection to your bank and nothing to reconcile against.
Recurring subscriptions post automatically on the schedule you set. They post what you told them to post, whether or not the real-world payment happened. Check them.
We take care to compute correctly. Amounts are stored as exact integer minor units rather than floating-point, so totals do not drift. But we do not warrant that any figure is accurate or fit for any particular purpose, including tax filing or any submission to a third party.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- break the law with it, or use it to store the proceeds or records of crime;
- access anyone else's account or data, or try to;
- probe, scan or test the security of the service without our written permission, or interfere with its operation;
- automate access at a volume that degrades the service for others, or evade rate limits;
- resell, sublicense or white-label the service;
- upload malware, or content you have no right to store;
- invite people to a household who have not agreed to be invited.
Responsible security research is welcome. Tell us at support@inspendia.com before you test anything, and give us a reasonable chance to fix what you find.
5. Plans, payment and what happens when a plan ends
Inspendia has a Free plan and a Pro plan (US$19.99 per year). Free is not a trial: it is the product, with caps on how many budgets, subscriptions, investment accounts and custom categories you can keep, and a rolling 12-month view of your history. Pro lifts those caps.
Billing is manual and there is no card on file. You upgrade by emailing us; we do not store payment details, there is no automatic renewal, and nothing is ever charged to you without you initiating it. Prices are in US dollars and may change, but a change never affects a term you have already paid for.
When a Pro term ends, your account returns to Free. Nothing is deleted. If you are over a Free cap you keep everything you have; you simply cannot add more until you are back under the cap or renew. Older history becomes hidden from reports rather than erased. It is still there, still exportable, and it reappears in full if you upgrade again. This is how the software is built, not a policy we could quietly change.
Refunds are handled by email, case by case. Ask.
6. Shared households
A household is a shared ledger. Everything you add to one is visible to the other members, along with your email address. See the privacy policy for exactly what is and is not shared. Your personal records stay private.
Creating a household needs Pro; joining one does not, and members are never charged. Households hold up to 10 people.
Splits and settlements are bookkeeping, not a payment system. Inspendia records what members agree they owe each other. It does not move money, hold funds, or enforce anything. Debts between members are between members; we are not a party to them and take no responsibility for resolving them.
Entries you add to a household stay with that household if you leave or delete your account, no longer linked to you, because the other members' balances are calculated from them.
7. Your data
What you enter is yours. We claim no ownership of it. You grant us only the permission we need to run the service for you: to store it, process it, back it up, and show it to you and to household members you have chosen to share it with.
You can export a complete archive at any time, on any plan, and you can delete your account yourself. Deletion deactivates immediately and permanently erases after seven days, with a cancellation link emailed to you in case it was a mistake or was not you. The privacy policy governs how we handle personal information and forms part of these terms.
We may keep anonymous, aggregated operational data (how many accounts exist, error rates) that identifies nobody.
8. Availability and changes
Inspendia is run by one person on modest infrastructure. We aim to keep it up and to take care of your data, but we offer no uptime guarantee, no service-level agreement, and no promise of support response times. It may be unavailable for maintenance, upgrades or reasons outside our control.
Features may change, and we may add, alter or withdraw them. If we ever discontinue Inspendia entirely, we will give you reasonable notice and time to export your data before it goes.
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects your rights we will tell you before it takes effect. Continuing to use Inspendia afterwards means you accept the updated terms.
9. No warranty
Except as stated below, Inspendia is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any calculation or figure it produces is accurate.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2002 (Ontario), or under any other law that cannot be waived by agreement. Where such a law applies, it prevails over anything here that conflicts with it.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, nor for lost profits, lost savings, lost data, or losses arising from financial decisions you made using Inspendia.
Our total liability for any claim relating to Inspendia is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or CAD $50.
This limit does not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law, including death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation, nor to the unwaivable rights preserved in §9.
11. Indemnity
If someone brings a claim against us because of how you used Inspendia (your content, your breach of these terms, or your breach of someone else's rights), you agree to cover our reasonable costs in dealing with it. We will tell you promptly about any such claim and will not settle it without talking to you.
12. Suspension and termination
You may stop using Inspendia at any time and delete your account from your settings.
We may suspend or close an account that breaches §4, that we are legally required to act on, or that is being used in a way that endangers the service or other users. Except where the law or the seriousness of the breach makes it impossible, we will tell you why and give you a chance to export your data first. If we close your account without cause, we will refund the unused portion of any Pro term you have paid for.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada that apply there, and the courts of Ontario have jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer resident elsewhere, nothing here deprives you of the protection of the mandatory laws of the place you live, or of the right to bring a claim there.
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing something is not a waiver of it.
